Timber is the most sustainable material available for the manufacture of glazed products and unlike aluminium and plastic, because it is grown naturally wood has a low embodied carbon footprint. We take all reasonable action to be as environmentally responsible as we can, so all of the timber we use is sourced from sustainable forests. This means the timber is harvested responsibly from well managed forests that are continually replenished to make sure that no damage is done to the surrounding environment.
Some of the oldest buildings are made of wood. Hardwood is highly adaptable to manufacture into sustainable construction products. Wood is easy to maintain, offers a long lifespan and is also ultimately recyclable.
Not only do we ensure our products are 100% renewable, natural and biodegradable but we also ensure that our waste is recycled, the lighting in our factory is energy efficient and that a portion of our energy is sourced from renewable sources.
Because Akeley manufacture using state of the art, highly efficient machinery, our products also take less energy to produce, further reducing the carbon footprint of your project.
Embodied carbon makes up between 30 to 50% of the carbon emissions of a new building throughout its lifetime. Because we’ve committed to investing in manufacturing hardwood products as efficiently as possible, this reduces the overall carbon footprint of your construction project.
